A beautiful song of poet, writer and filmmaker Jyoti Prasad Agarwala that sprang from the depth of the music composer’s heart – ‘Juire Ki xur Likhi jawa..’ was recently released in the video format on the occasion of the 9th death anniversary of Bhupen Hazarika in Guwahati.
Like many of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala’s songs, ‘Juire Ki xur Likhi jawa..’ too, immediately strike with its poetic imagery and melodic contour. The song was tuned by eminent music director Ramen Barua.
Musically arranged by Amarjyoti Deka, the song is beautifully rendered by Rima Goswami and Anamika Deka. The mixing and mastering have been done by Abhijit Barman. The way the singers convey the song’s meaning and mood, in perfect harmony, touches the emotional chord of the listeners.
Poet, playwright, filmmaker, composer and freedom fighter, Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala is regarded as one of the brightest lights in the Assamese cultural firmament. His work, nothing short of a national treasure, reflected the culture of his time.
With a remarkably vast corpus of over 300 songs, most of which were based on folk tunes absorbed into the fabric of his music, Jyotiprasad Agarwala composed a new trend of Assamese musicology namely ‘Jyoti Sangeet’. They record the poet’s own experiences and emotions, and are vivid products of the social and political settings in which they were framed. Agarwala was a worshipper of beauty and all that is noble in life. He employed most of his songs for his stage dramas, movies and gramophone records.
Agarwala’s songs, which evoke multiple emotions and feelings, are a cultural heritage, important enough to be preserved, reproduced, and disseminated.
