Hilary Swank’s performance seems like it was brought in from the wrong movie as the widow receiving love letters from her late husband, but director Richard LaGravenese does capture some nice-looking location shots. Gerard Butler is best known as an action star, but in P.S. I Love You he showed that he can also be a romantic lead when needed.

Ryan Reynolds is perfect as the roguish dad telling his daughter all about his wild single days, and Abigail Breslin charms as the precocious youngster trying to piece together her parents’ puzzle. It’s a little too long and suffers from some bloat in the middle, but Definitely, Maybe has enough heart (and humor) to make it a worthy watch.
