Iman Vellani is a Pakistani-Canadian and actress best known for portraying the title character Kamala Khan in the Marvel series Ms. Marvel (2018). She is set to reprise the role in a film titled The Marvels (2019).
Born in Karachi, Pakistan to Ismaili Muslim parents, she migrated to Canada when she was a year old, and graduated from Unionville High School in the Regional Municipality of York. She was selected as a member of the TIFF Next program.
On 8 June 2022 Ms. Marvel premiered on Disney+, marking Vellanis onscreen debut. Described as a fresh, bold, and authentic take on a superhero franchise, the series and her portrayal of Kamala Khan received positive reviews.
Vellani is set to reprise her role in the upcoming film The Marvels, which will serve as a sequel to the 2019 film Captain Marvel.
