What order do the Herbie films go in?
To date there are six entries in the Herbie movie series. The movies appear in the following order:

Herbie: The Love Bug (1968): The first film in the series, Herbie: The Love Bug follows the story of down-on-his-luck race car driver Jim Douglas, who purchases a seemingly ordinary Volkswagen Beetle only to discover that it has a mind of its own. With the help of his mechanic, Tennessee Steinmetz, Jim learns to drive and race with Herbie, and the two become an unstoppable team.
Herbie Rides Again (1974): In the second film of the series, Herbie Rides Again, Herbie is retired from racing and living with his original owner, Mrs. Steinmetz. When Mrs. Steinmetz is threatened with eviction from her home, Jim and Herbie must team up once again to save the day.
Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo (1977): In the third film, Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo, Herbie and his human companions travel to Europe to compete in a prestigious race. Along the way, they must contend with a pair of bumbling jewel thieves and a glamorous French actress.
Herbie Goes Bananas (1980): Herbie Goes Bananas finds Herbie and his team of adventurers on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. The group must outwit a pair of con artists, thwart a mad scientist’s plans, and save a baby chimpanzee from a ruthless animal smuggler.
The Love Bug (1997): The fourth film in the series, The Love Bug, is a remake of the original. This time, Herbie is owned by an ambitious young race car driver and his mechanic. The two must overcome their differences in order to become a winning team.
Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005): The fifth and final film in the series, Herbie: Fully Loaded, finds Herbie back in the hands of another young race car driver. With the help of her mechanic, Maggie Peyton must prove that Herbie still has what it takes to be a champion.

No, the Herbie movies were directed by different directors. The original 1968 movie, “The Love Bug,” was directed by Robert Stevenson.
