‘The Weeping Clouds’ made by the state’s young filmmaker Padmini Rabha, was adjudged the Jury’s Best Documentary Film in the Student’s Section at the recently held ‘Indian Cine Film Festival 2014’ at Delhi. Earlier, the documentary carried home the award for Best Documentary at the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival which took place at Noida.
‘The Weeping Clouds’ depicts the real-life struggle and perseverance of five widows who come from different strata of society. Padmini’s work was praised by some of the country’s top critics, producers and directors including National Award-winning filmmaker Snehasish Das. ‘The Weeping Clouds’ is produced by Padmini’s mother Kumud Mala Rabha under the banner of Mass Co Media, Noida. Director Padmini Rabha is no newcomer to the harshness of reality.
Her previous documentary ‘Pixies on Earth’ vividly depicted the plight of the socially neglected dwarfs, and the importance of giving them their rightful place in society. A wonderful effort, the documentary bagged the award for Best Documentary Film in the 3rd Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival in 2013. The film employed a lot of verite footage and interviews. A bright and confident director quite capable of articulating reality, Padmini Rabha had spend a lot of time on research work on the subject.
Hailing from Thekasu, Dudhnoi of Goalpara district and daughter of Reserve Bank Of India employee, late Dilip Kumar Rabha, Padmini Rabha is presently busy working as a chief assistant director in a Bollywood film titled ‘Gun Pe Done’.
Gun Pe Done is a comical story of two struggling artists trying to make it big in Bollywood with Jimmy Sheirgill in lead role. The film has directed by Abhik Bhanu.
