Detective Forst Ending Explained: Who is the Beast of Giewont?

In the Netflix show Detective Forst, they figured out who the killer was, but by the end, people thought the main detective did something wrong.

The show is based on a book series called Forst, written by a Polish author named Remigiusz Mróz. In the first season, Detective Wiktor Forst is trying to catch a serial killer called the Beast of Giewont, and he gets help from a journalist named Olga Szrebskaasda. While they’re chasing the killer, they find out about a long-running plan for revenge.

Even though they found out who the killer was and how the detective’s past was connected to him, there were still big questions at the end of the season. People wanted to know what happened to certain characters, what the Beast of Giewont’s complicated plan was, and why they were making the detective’s life so difficult.

The Unveiling of the Beast

In a gripping Episode 4 encounter, Forst and Olga confront the Beast of Giewont, revealed to be Iwo Elijah. Manipulated by Halina Sznajdermans, Iwo swiftly dispatches her with Forst’s own firearm, skillfully framing him at the crime scene.

To exonerate himself, Forst resorts to a last-ditch effort – commissioning a street artist to craft a composite sketch of Iwo. However, this attempt backfires when Prosecutor Dominika Wadryś Hansen, on the eve of a press conference, identifies the sketch as her husband, Gjord Hansen.

Unraveling Gjord’s Motive

Gjord, formerly Iwo Elijah, shares a dark history with Forst, both orphaned under Halina’s care. The catalyst for their strained relationship traces back to a childhood theft of Halina’s coin necklace, for which Iwo took the blame. Branded a thief, Iwo harbored a seething resentment towards Forst, fueling a desire to dismantle his life.

Seizing the opportunity, Halina molds Iwo into an instrument of vengeance, directing him to eliminate her enemies and draw Forst into his web of deception. With Halina disposed of, Iwo proceeds to frame Forst for the Beast of Giewont murders, as well as the killings of Agata, Staszek, and Nina.

Forst’s Harrowing Conclusion

As Forst grapples with the aftermath of his confrontation with Iwo and the failure to save Agata, he rushes to Nina’s home to ensure Olga’s safety. The discovery of a blood-stained coin on Olga’s pillow suggests another victim claimed by Gjord’s machinations.

Meanwhile, Olga drives an unconscious Gjord, injured from the confrontation, seemingly unharmed. The revelation raises questions about her allegiance, especially in light of her earlier interaction with Forst in the first episode. Forst’s desolation deepens beside Nina’s lifeless form, hinting at a potential betrayal by Olga.

The season concludes with Forst in a state of dejection, pondering whether Olga betrayed him. Outside, a swarm of police vehicles arrives, leaving audiences in suspense – is Forst awaiting arrest for his perceived failure, or does he slip away to continue the pursuit of Gjord and Olga? The answers remain elusive, shrouded in the enigma of Detective Forst’s intricate narrative.
