I can’t express my joy right now. On hearing the news about the selection of ‘Village Rockstars’ as India’s choice for Oscars, I could not hold my happiness.
4 years ago, I wished to do at least one film in Assamese, but due to some reasons, I could not take a step. But, honestly, I always wished to see Assamese Cinema turning stronger week by week and year by year. I have also encouraged the upcoming filmmakers to concentrate on reviving the lost glory of the industry.
(And you can find what I shared in this article: Reforms Required For Restructuring The Position of Assamese Film Industry)
And thankfully, we could witness the growth of Assamese Cinema in recent times and most of the films turning successful with good content. And being the country’s official selection for the Oscar, increases the responsibility and it would be difficult for the filmmakers to maintain the pace. But, I would like to once again ask the directors and writers to confidently present whatever they wish to. When content has the strength, it can deliever the strongest punch, just like ‘Village Rockstars’ did.
I truly wish to see many films coming up in the future, but with good content. There is no hurry, dear filmmakers! Take your time and entertain the world with strong content. Good luck everybody.
Yours Truly,
Joel Jayakar.
